Why is a good puppy development so important? Proper puppy development opens a dog's mind up to take training later in life.
At Hay Creek Kennel we believe that the best time to introduce your dog to bird scent is between the age of six and 20 weeks. This is the time where your dog learns the most, boosting instincts, confidence, and enthusiasm for life. Therefore, we recommend bringing your dog to us for bird introduction and puppy development between ten and 20 week of age. Doing so will set your dog up for success, as well as allow him or her to form independence and an identity.
What can I do at home? Always remember, just because we think we are not training doesn't mean our dog isn't learning. Be prepared for the arrival of your new pup. It is best to contact us before or as soon as you get your puppy. We will set up a consultation with you in order to show you what to do to increase success. You will need to establish structure and boundaries right away.
The best way to stop undesirable behavior is to not allow it to start. Be firm. For example, don't pick up your puppy when he or she is jumping on you, don't let your puppy out of your arms while he or she is squirming, and don't let your puppy out of his or her kennel crate while he or she is barking or fussing. However, keep in mind that there is a very fine line between positive structure and boundaries and too much restriction or domination. Crossing this line could be disastrous.
Let us help you to establish proper structure and boundaries. Doing so will result in the development of a relationship based upon respect and trust, successful training later on in life, and a dog that everyone will want to be around.
